Local experts explain ways to impact gentrifying communities at the political and ground level
As the entire country struggles to find ways to manage declining housing affordability and changing communities, we are finding collaborative forums as a catalyst for idea generation and partnerships. As part of the 2022 Lost Spaces Conference, a panel of experts and practitioners shared ways everyone begin to collaborate and impact their communities. Focused on empowering local developers to take control of their gentrifying communities, organizers presented a panel intertwined with political, community, and practice all rooted in real estate.
Joined by Council Member Tiffany Thomas of District F, attendees were able to understand how to begin shaping development through policy. Midtown Redevelopment Authority board and housing advocate member, Zoe Middleton and economic development advocate, Creative Group Economics founder. Lloyd Ford talked about grass root activities to influence resources. Real Estate Broker and urban planner, Jason Hyman shared his view on the market and how to challenge it. Last, CEO of The Houston Land Bank, Christa Stoneham was able to highlight tools that can be instrumental in stabilizing communities.
